2010 CIT Prize Award

CDMA Prize at CIT

For many years CDMA has sponsored a prize of $250 to the student from the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) who has shown the greatest improvement in the study of English as a Second Language. The text from the CIT Graduation Citation for the 2010 prize read as follows:
  • Canberra Districts Masonic Association (Freemasons) Prize
  • This prize is awarded to the student from the CIT Vocational College who has shown the greatest improvement in the study of English as a Second Language
  • Mu Yai Paw Shew
  • Certificate IV in English for Employment, Study and Life.

Mu showed quiet determination and absolute perseverance to make dramatic improvements in her English whilst studying at CIT. Mu's increased proficiency in spoken English was evident in both her confidence and ability when she made a speech about her learning journey at the 2009 End of Year Student Achievement Celebration to an audience of teachers, guests and peers. Mu's teachers commend her for being such a positive, friendly and co-operative student who promoted the sharing of cultural experiences in her class. There is no doubt that these attributes will ensure her great success in the future.

I donned my less-used and perhaps to some Masons unfamiliar regalia and presented the prize to Mu Wednesday 24 march at the 1.00PM ceremony.
